Library introduces Page Turners Book Club Forsyth Public Library staff announce the formation of a book discussion club for children in grades 4-8. The new club kicks off Tuesday, Jan. 19, and will meet every two weeks from 3:30-4:45 p.m. in the conference room at the library through the first part of May. Preselected books provided by the library will be the topic of discus- sion and special activities at each meeting, usually at a rate of one book every four weeks. Some of the goals for the club include developing an appreciation of literature, broadening areas of reading interest, and improv- ing reading skills. “The Page Turners Book Club is also an opportunity for children to express themselves creatively and enjoy fun activities suggested by the books, including art projects, creative writing and games,” said Children’s Librarian Lorraine Getty. Once a child has joined the club, he or she can attend regular meetings without having to re-register for indi- vidual programs. However, advance registration is required for joining the group initially and will be accepted through Jan. 19. Registrants will receive their books at club meetings. The first book of the series, “Niagara Falls – or Does It?”, was inspired by the true life experiences of actor and co-author Henry Winkler and is the first book in the “Hank Zipzer” series about the “world’s greatest underachiever.” “This book is funny, touching and deals with learning differences in a gentle and humorous manner,” Getty said. It will be followed in February by “The Lightning Thief,” Rick Rior- dan’s modern-day fantasy involving the Olympian Gods, who – as hero Percy Jackson discovers – live among us even today.
