Celebrity cooks, chili competitors get cooking at the mall on Jan. 16

DATE: Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 PLACE: Hickory Point Mall in the south area near Bergner’s PARTICIPANTS: International Chili Society (ICS) members begin cooking at 10:30 a.m. with “People’s Choice” samples to be given away at 3 p.m. Awards will be presented at 4:45 p.m. with $1,200 given as first place prize for the best red chili.

Local celebrity cooks will begin selling taste samples of their chili at noon following the judging. Chili tickets are 50 cents each and may be purchased in advance at Village Hall or from any Board trustee, or at the event itself. Awards will be presented for the cook whose decor best promotes the organiza- tion or business represented, and for the cook whose decor best promotes the “Southwest Chili.”

Net proceeds of the day will be distributed equally between Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army.
